A Quick Note from our Quilt Show Communications Lead

After almost 2 years of planning I can’t believe the quilt show is over for 2017.

Everyone has a 1stThank you to all the people who stitched on my Canada 150 quilt. Please consider adding your personal stitches, as it would be priceless to have all the guild members help me finish it. There are some pretty crazy stitches on it, including mine, that bring a smile to my face every time I look at them. This will be a quilt with a story! I even have a picture of my son and his girlfriend working on it.IMG-20170603-01207

I can’t believe I didn’t take a picture of my husband at the frame! Thanks Joan Smith for making, what may have seemed like an wacky idea, work.

Now the other wacky idea was to make maple leaf 9 patch blocks to encourage new quilters to take up a  quilt project and to raise money for the Edmonton Mennonite Newcomers Centre. We sold about 170 blocks so far, which exceeded my 1st target of 150. My next target is one for every member in the guild…. I think that is around 233.

Blocks will be for sale at the banquet, so please consider buying a few. Perhaps make a  quick July 1st table runner or maybe inspire a young  person in your life make their own quilt. At $3 / block it is a great price and all the money goes to helping the Literacy and Parenting program for struggling newcomers to this country.

Have a great time at the banquet. Sorry I can’t make it.

Yvonne Bilan-Wallace
