October was another successful giving month with 30 quilts given to Quilts of Valour. Christine Orr and Todd Hussey, QoV Reps, were on hand to receive the quilts on October 13th which they will be sharing with QoV Rep Nicole Langlois in Red Deer. Christine really emphasized that day how much these quilts mean to our veterans.

At the October monthly Guild meeting, I brought up the possibility of giving pillow cases to people using the Edmonton Conference Centre temporary pandemic shelter this winter. I did hear from the City of Edmonton’s Affordable Housing and Homelessness, Citizen Services Department, Social Services Branch. They welcome our offer of pillow cases. They are working out a process for receiving donations from various organizations and will get back to me with that information.

Any pattern for a standard size pillow case is fine. Wash it in scent free detergent and place in a large ziplock bag. Bring it to the Focus on Fibre Arts Studio (9532-87 st NW, Edmonton) on Tuesday, November 10th between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. If you are not able to drop off at that time, please call me to arrange a pick up or drop off at my home before November 10th if possible.

The Community Service Team will also be receiving quilts on November 10th that could be used for homeless people being placed in apartments and possibly the Give Me Shelter Campaign which is organized by Global News- Give Me Shelter. I have not heard from Global yet about their Campaign.

Happy sewing and quilting everyone. Often little things like pillowcases can make a big difference!
