It has been a busy summer despite COVID-19 restrictions, smoke and blistering heat. Nine quilts were sent to Katja’s Quilt Shop in Kamloops for fire victims and a few more were taken by a member to the Sleep in Heavenly Peace Charity. I also heard from several members that they have charity quilts ready to go if we see another emergent need.
Brenda Morris and I went through the donated fabric that we have in stock and organized it hoping to be ready for sew days in the fall. The Focus on Fibre Arts Studio is ready for our use if this fourth wave of COVID-19 does not come with restrictions again. The Community Service Team has the studio booked for every second Tuesday of the month, but time will tell if members are comfortable getting together. The ideal is 12 members with sewing machines attending for the day and others to pop in and out to drop off quilts or pick up fabric and batting. Stay tune for updates. Alberta Health Guidelines could change from week to week.
If you wish to place an EDQG label on your charity quilt you can print one from the EDQG website. You will find it under the Community Service header. It has been updated to the 2021-2022 year.
One of the charities we supported last year was Society of St. Vincent de Paul. A quilt sent there went to a very deserving family where a single mother was hospitalized with COVID-19 in October and not able to work due to her health issues.
Chantelle wrote: “WOW. Words cannot express the love you have shown my daughter and me by giving us this wonderful quilt. We have been experiencing many difficulties this past year and have been feeling very discouraged. This was a lovely reminder that indeed there is positivity in our community. Again, thank you.”

Suggestions for charities for the 2021-2022 year would be appreciated. If anyone hears of emergent needs that is always welcome as well. The Community Service Team and I are
looking forward to another year of spreading comfort. Please let me know if you wish to join us. Peace,
