Opportunity Awaits …

How would your bee group like to participate in our quilt show basket draw? We are asking bee groups whether they might be interested in putting together a basket that will be raffled off at the quilt show. Attendees at the show can purchase tickets and place them in a box below their favorite basket, using a similar process to our banquet brown bag activity. I have talked to a few bee groups, and most are interested. Ticket sales will go towards the cost of the venue.

Items in the basket can be any theme like movie night, sewing supplies, etc. but we ask that only new items are included, and that no homemade foods are placed in the basket.

Which bee group can make the brightest, entertainingly stunning, and fun basket?

An entry form is currently being drafted so put your thinking caps on and talk to people in your bee group.

Quilt Show Volunteers
Once again, we will be asking our members to volunteer at the 2023 Quilt Show which will be held June 3rd and 4th.  This year, we will be using Signup Genius software to schedule the volunteers but don’t worry, if you need help to sign up for a shift, we can do that for you.

Since many members are attending the guild meetings via zoom rather than in person, this will be an easy way to schedule shifts. Remember when we used to circulate a clipboard at meetings to solicit help?

We need people to be quilt angels, take admission fees, assist with guarding our precious quilts, set up and take down the quilt displays, plus many other jobs. We couldn’t do it without the help of our members!

Watch future newsletters for more information. If you have any questions, please contact our Quilt Show Volunteer Coordinator Linda T at  l_thorne@shaw.ca

Quilt Show Judges Billet Hosts Needed

Planning is moving ahead for our 2023 Festival of Quilts Show which is scheduled for Saturday, June 3rd and Sunday, June 4th.

I hope you are already planning the amazing quilts you would like to enter. Once online quilt entry is live and, as you are entering your lovely quilts, you will need to decide whether you wish to have your quilts judged.

We have secured the services of two amazing CQA certified judges for our show. Judging will take place on Friday, June 2. The judges will arrive sometime on Thursday. The billet host will be asked to provide dinner on Thursday (if the judge arrives before dinner time) as well as breakfast on Friday and Saturday morning. The judges will be staying with the billet host on Thursday night, June 1 and Friday night, June 2 and are expected to leave on Saturday morning.

Both judges and their billet hosts will be treated to dinner by the Quilt Show Committee on Friday evening once judging is complete.

Both judges are expected to drive to Edmonton from their home and will be expected to get themselves to and from the billet home to the Quilt Show venue (which is the Central Lions Recreation Centre). A small stipend will be paid to each billet host. That amount is $50 per night.

Please contact me by email (darconroy@shaw.ca) if you would be interested in hosting one of the judges for our show. Thanks very much for considering this.
