Library Update – November 2024

“Sewing is a way to mark our existence on cloth: patterning our place in the world, voicing our identity, sharing something of ourselves with others,  and leaving the indelible evidence of our presence in stitches held fast by our touch.”

– Claire Hunter – Threads of Life: A History of the World Through the Eye of a Needle, 2019.

Our October meeting was again busy with many members and guests coming to the meeting in person.

Thank you for your support of the Library Book Raffle which raised $213.00 to purchase new books for the library!

I have my eye on some new books coming out in November, one on sustainable quilting that looks very interesting.

The October raffle books and winners were:

  • The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt, by Riel Nason. Won by Kathy S.
  • Quilting With a Modern Slant, by Rachel May. Won by Fran P.

One of our raffle books for our November book raffle is:  Essential Sashiko: A Dictionary of the 92 Most Popular Patterns; Includes 11 Easy Projects, by Boutique-sha, Inc.

I am trying to tie in our raffle books with our slow stitch demonstrations being held at the monthly meetings this year. This book is recommended by Susan J., who co-hosted the Sashiko demonstration at the September meeting. It was purchased at Quiltessentials.

I have also purchased the following Sashiko books for the library:

  • The Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook: Patterns, Projects and Inspirations, by Susan Briscoe, David & Charles Publishers, 2005.
  • Sashiko 365: Stitch a New Sashiko Pattern Every Day of the Year, by Susan Briscoe, David & Charles Publishers, 2022.

Both books were purchased at Trapunto.

At the November meeting we will be bringing the library book bin with the title letter starting with Bl-C. Plus, our selection of Christmas themed project books. Also, a selection of wool applique books to tie in with the slow stitch demonstration.

Every month for the free (please take home with you) table, we bring a selection of quilting magazines that have been donated to us. For the November meeting I have selected some holiday themed issues.

As I browse through the magazines, I have found a lot of wool applique and pincushion patterns, so I have marked these for you to see. You might find the pattern you have been looking for, for this year’s pincushion project!

Happy Reading and Sewing!
