October 2020

Thank you everyone for a very successful giving event to Sleep in Heavenly Peace (shpbeds.ca) on Tuesday, September 8th, 2020. A total of 34 quilts were gathered and completely overwhelmed Neil Hayes. He told us more about the organization. They receive names of children who need beds mostly from shelters but also from the Police and Social workers. They give only new beds that volunteers have built and give only new linens, pillows and quilts. The beds are built so that they can easily come apart for moving. More volunteers are always welcome. It was very heartwarming to help out this charity.

Our next Community Service day at the FFAA Studio (9532-87 Street NW) is on Tuesday, October 13th, 2020 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The focus this time is on Quilts of Valour
and Christine Orr will pick up any donations of quilts for this organization.

Unfortunately with COVID spreading so rapidly in Edmonton, we are not having a working group on Tuesday. I will be there with one assistant to open the studio and welcome
member drop-ins.

Please leave other charity quilts at your house this month as we determine together where we will send quilts in December. One suggestion I was given was the Give Me Shelter Campaign like we did last December which is sponsored by Global. I phoned Global and spoke to Stephanie who is helping with this campaign. They have not decided yet if or how they are managing it this year. They should know something in 2 weeks and will call me with the details. Let me know if you have other ideas.

We will have some batting, labels, bolts of fabric including one bin of Christmas fabric and premade kits for pick up. Alberta Health Service Guidelines for COVID apply. A mask must be worn in the studio, hand sanitizer is required on entry and as needed and I keep a contact list of everyone entering the studio in case follow up is required.

In September 20 members and one guest came to the Community Service Day.

Thanks to Charlene Thompson, our labels on the website have been updated to read 2020-2021. You may find these templates for printing under Community Service in the
