Quilt Festival 2025

Feb 2025

Mark your calendars for the EDQG Quilt Festival 2025!

June 6th & 7th

Our Quilt Show will be here before we know it! We hope your quilt show entry is well
underway.

Sustainable Quilts and Wearables!

We have a new category this year, Sustainable Quilts and Wearables!

Each year millions of tons of textiles end up in our landfills. How can quilters make a difference? Have your considered entering a quilt in this new category.  At least 75% of the fabric used within the piece must be re-purposed from materials including functional textiles.

Here are some options:

  1. Upcycle clothes from the family closet. This could be jeans (denim quilt), cotton shirts, skirts, dresses (to make a beautiful bed quilt), Tee shirt quilts (kids tees make wonderful quilts), memory quilts (used clothing of a loved one), wool garments (for a woolly quilt).
  2. Explore a used clothing store for interesting garments. Art quilts often require many different fabrics and notions. Great finds can be discovered in recycle venues.
  3. Reuse sheets and blankets for backing.
  4. Make Frankenbatting from bits of batting that are not big enough for any quilts.

Any questions regarding any of our quilt categories can be directed to quiltshow@edqg.ca.

Breakfast Presentation & Workshops

We’re excited to have secured Cheryl Arkison to present ‘Playground Games for Quilters’ during our Friday morning breakfast presentation ‘Playground Games for Quilters’.  Cheryl will also deliver two workshops, ‘Improve Applique’ and ‘One Colour Challenge’.

Further details on the classes and release date for tickets to these events will be provided soon on our Quilt Show website.

Fundraising for the Show

The 2025 Quilt Festival Committee is working hard fundraising for the 2025 show. Fundraising this year will include more 50/50 draws, a quilt raffle, a basket raffle and a 50/50 draw during the quilt show.

Our next 50/50 Raffle is now live. The draw date will be February 19 at noon, so get your tickets soon. To date, we have raised about $ 1,500, halfway to our 50/50 goal of $ 3,000. Thanks to all of you for your continuing support!

Community Services received 2 partially constructed quilts that have now been completed.  We are planning to raffle those quilts.  Both of the quilts look great! We have a license and tickets and are ready to proceed with the sale of tickets.  We are looking for help from EDQG members who are members of other guilds.  We would like you to show offs our quilt and some tickets to those guilds.  If you fit this description and would like to help out, please contact Myrna P. at vicechair@edqg.ca.

Another basket raffle is being organized and it will be similar to the one done at the last show. It was a huge success and I think everyone had fun putting them together. The tickets were sold out and it turned out to be a good fundraiser for us. We are asking bee groups and friend groups to once again, create a basket, theme of your own choice. The value should be $80.00 or more.  There is an application form to be filled out and that will be available at the next guild
meeting and on line.  Please send your completed forms to Charlene T. at
webmaster@edqg.ca by March 31 st , 2025. Your completed baskets should be brought to the May guild meeting, May 21 st , 2025. We are looking forward to seeing what new and fun ideas you can come up with!

Volunteers Needed Now & Later!

The success of a Quilt Show relies on its amazing volunteers!  Once again we need your support in putting on this fabulous show.  I am sure everyone is busy working on their quilts so they can be ready for the quilt drop off on Wednesday, June 4th.

Volunteers will then be needed to hang the many quilts on Thursday, June 5th.  Note that this is the day before the first day of the quilt show which will be held this year on Friday, June 6th and Saturday, June 7th at the Saville Centre.

During the quilt show, we need people to be cashiers, to set up displays, and volunteers to sell raffle tickets.  Quilt angel volunteers will also be needed to assist with the protection and safekeeping of the quilts during the show.  And of course , there is the take down of the quilts when the show is over on Saturday, June 7th.

We will be using the same system (Signup Genius) as we used for the 2023 quilt show where all the volunteer positions will be posted and you can sign up for your preferred shift(s).  Stay tuned…we will keep you informed when the system is ready for signups in April or May but first we must log in all our data on how many volunteers we need for all the various activities and the available time slots.

If you have any questions on being a quilt show volunteer, please contact Linda T. at l_thorne@shaw.ca

A more immediate ask, our Quilt Show Committee is currently looking to have someone join us now to shadow our Staging Team!  Please contact Theresa R. (terichey@telus.net) or Vicki R. at (communications@edqg.ca) if you have questions or are interested in working with this fantastic team!

We are also looking to have someone lead our Parcel Check during the show. Contact Sharon M. or Melissa F. at
quiltshow@edqg.ca for more info about that role.

Travelling soon?

Can you fit a bundle of Quilt Show postcards in your bag and help us by dropping them off at quilt stores in Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan? Please contact Yvonne at wallaces_4@shaw.ca if you can assist.
