Congratulations to Kathy!

Quilt by K. Logan de Chavez

Kathy Logan de Chavez took her first stitches on a sewing machine at the age of eight and spent many hours over the years making clothes for herself. She started quilting after asking her friend to make a wedding quilt for her step-son; her friend refused and told her she had to make it herself!  So she did!   That started a new journey, and twenty- eight years and many quilts later, Kathy is still very enthusiastic about all things textile.

Kathy has a vast skill set and has been known to tackle any and all quilting styles. She loves traditional quilts but favours making smaller art pieces.  She loves to explore different techniques and styles.  She is definitely not afraid of colour – she claims to have never met a colour she didn’t like and this is evident in her work. Her goal is always to bring joy, vibrancy and fun to the viewer’s eye.

If you are fortunate, you have been gifted one of Kathy’s beautiful creations. If there is a wedding, there is a quilt. If there is a baby, there is a quilt. If there is a show, there is a quilt. If there is one quilt on the go, there is another being dreamt up. Kathy strives for excellence in her textile art, and adheres to the principle “practice makes progress”.

Kathy has been an active participant in the EDQG since joining in 1999, having participated in and chairing several committees, and serving as Chair of the Board twice. She is fulfilled by the community aspect of quilting and has developed many wonderful friendships as a result of being part of the quilting community. When she is not quilting, Kathy can be found playing ukulele, singing, dancing, baking delicious treats, playing with her grand babies or walking her dogs in the river valley.
