Cathy Tomm & Betty Manuel

Together We Quilt

Cathy Tomm and Betty Manuel are not just daughter and mother; they are “soul sisters” in quilting. For 30 years, they have explored together all aspects of their passion: quilt shows, shop hops, classes, retreats, personal and guild stitch days, and, of course, the production of many shared quilts

Cathy and Betty are both native Albertans and grads of the U of A. Betty was one of the founding members of the Edmonton and District Quilters’ Guild, but she took a sabbatical, raising her family and working alongside her husband in their business: The Training Group. Betty rejoined the guild in 1994, and Cathy soon came under the great umbrella, too.  Cathy has provided long-arm custom quilting services and has been in business for 27 years. Betty completed her CQA Judges program several years ago. Together, they have shared their love and passion for quilting for thousands of hours. As Betty says,  “A day without quilting is a bad day.”

It seems fitting in this 45th anniversary year that we should invite these two long-time members to share their journey with us.
