Library Update – November 2025

Author: Sandra P.,

Winter-like weather is here… and we are thinking of the holiday season! For our last meeting before the year ends, I have chosen two holiday themed books:

Christmas in Europe: Block of the Month with Bonus Patterns, Stories, and Recipes, by Gudrun Erla, GE Designs, 2024. This book is a treat for the eyes! You could make one block, or the whole quilt. No special rulers are needed. Or you could just sip Gluhwein and eat cookies from the recipes provided as you look through the book which was purchased at Lori’s Country Cottage. We have a copy in the library (purchased at Quiltessential).

The Little Ghost Quilt’s Winter Surprise, by Riel Nason. Illustrated by Byron Eggenschwiler, Tundra Books, 2025. A picture book for the young at heart. Another adventure for the Little Ghost Quilt. Halloween is over, but the human neighbours seem to be celebrating again with decorated trees and twinkling lights. How can he share that with his ghost friends who can’t come outside as they would be too cold in their thin ghost sheets?? Purchased at Lori’s Country Cottage.

The book raffle proceeds go to purchase new books for the library and raffle books. Last month we raised $185.00. Thank you for your support. I have purchased more raffle books from the newly opened southside Johnson’s/Quilter’s Dream store. Supporting local businesses!

“Sewing is a way to mark our existence on cloth: patterning our place in the world, voicing our identity, sharing something of ourselves with others,  and leaving the indelible evidence of our presence in stitches held fast by our touch.”

– Claire Hunter – Threads of Life: A History of the World Through the Eye of a Needle, 2019.

In November we will be bringing the book bin with book titles starting with the letter “Q”, plus our Christmas/holiday books.

For a complete listing of our library books, look at our library catalogue on the EDQG website under Library.  You can request a book by logging into the website and clicking on the Shopping Cart feature.  The books requested will be brought to the next guild meeting.  If you are not attending in person, arrangements can be made to get the books to you.
