2018-2019 Speakers

We are very pleased to welcome the following speakers to present our monthly meetings in the upcoming (2018-19) program year.

As we head into our Festival of Quilts Quilt Show year, our intention is to spark your creativity and get you working on a masterpiece (or two) to enter in the show!

September 2018 – AGM (no speaker)

October 2018 – The Creative Constant, Sharon Blackmore (Love Shack Quilts)
Does your busy schedule get in the way of your creative pursuits? Learn how to make more hours in the day magically appear by changing the way you view time.

Sharon will show you how to become, and more importantly stay, creatively engaged so you can spend less time juggling and more time creating.
You will gain several new ideas for manipulating time, making you a more efficient and productive quilter. Whether quilting is your hobby or your career, you will benefit greatly from these tips from a very busy quilter, herself.

November 2018 – To Judge or Not To Judge, Joyce Brown and Judy Villett
Are you interested in just what those judges actually do to when judging a quilt show? Are you intimidated by the process? Joyce and Judy are certified judges with CQA and have developed the program over the years. Their presentation will explain and demonstrate judging procedures, demystify the judging process and hopefully, encourage you to participate in a judged competition – yes, it can be a positive learning experience!

24 November 2018 – Workshop – What Was the Judge Thinking? Module 1 of the CQA/ACC Quilt Judge Certification Program
This presentation will follow up with a 1-day workshop – What Was the Judge Thinking?, which is also Module 1 of the CQA/ACC Quilt Judge Certification Program.

This seminar would be of interest to anyone thinking about entering a judged quilt show, organizing a show, or becoming a quilt judge. It is a stand-alone workshop for those wanting a basic understanding of judging. As it is also Module 1 of the CQA/ACC Quilt Judge Certification Program, it will be credited as such if registrants wish to continue in the program. The QJCP is growing, with a strong base of certified judges and apprentices. It is an internationally recognized certification that already includes judges from Canada and the USA.

December 2018 – no meeting

January 2019 – World Wide Whispers – Kim Caskey
Did you ever play that child’s birthday party game of whispering a sentence into the ear of a friend… and then continuing around the circle, only to end with a completely different sentence from the start? Imagine that concept, but with quilts. Kim is the team leader for Team Canada’s WWW18 Project and has incredible collection of 13 unique and magnificent quilts to share. You simply won’t believe the transition these pieces made from the original photograph.

February 2019 – An Evening with Ricky Tims
We are absolutely thrilled and excited to welcome Ricky Tims as our featured presenter this year. Ricky will thoroughly entertain us with stories of his quilting journey as well as his music!
