Welcome to our innovative and exciting 2021-2022 Program year!

September 15, 2021: “Behind the Seams” with Peter Byrne

Hello folks, you are invited to my virtual Trunk Show called “Behind the Seams” with Peter Byrne; please allow me to introduce myself and give you some of the highlights!

My name is Peter Byrne. I am a national and international award-winning, published modern quilter, designer and teacher with a deep passion for innovation and design.  While attending QuiltCon 2020, my quilt titled ‘Starring You’ won Best in Show and my quilt titled ‘Cityscape”won Best Machine Quilting Frameless.

I’m presently offering a presentation that includes over 350 slides, taking viewers through my own personal quilting journey.  In total, I share 20 quilts and going virtual has allowed me to include “how to” pictures of my quilt making process, along with close ups of every quilt!  We start by having a look at my experience of winning “Best in Show” and “Best Machine Quilting Frameless” at QuiltCon 2020.

I welcome everyone in, to have a look at my sewing studio and then we go all the way back to 2009 and view the first two quilts I made.

We move forward to 2017, when I became a full time student of the craft and joined the Toronto Modern Quilt Guild to further my quilting experience.  I walk you through my quilts made in 2017 and 2018 as I practised and developed my quilting skills, followed by sharing the spotlight at Quilts at the Creek!  I share a new approach to raw edge appliqué I have developed called Hover-quilting.

We then have a close look at my quilts made in 2019, when I decided to start making quilts specifically for juried shows and finish the show with all of my current work from 2020 and 2021.

This is a fast paced 45 minute presentation, followed by a Q & A. I look forward to meeting you and answering all of your questions!

June 16, 2021: AGM and Prairie Rose Scavenger Hunt Show

June’s meeting has no formal speaker as it is the AGM (Annual General Meeting), but there will be a presentation of the annual members’ challenge, the Prairie Rose Scavenger Hunt Show!
The annual challenge is hosted by our past chair and this year the theme was “All About You”.  It was a bit of a mystery quilt as well.  Members were given clues throughout the year that added elements to their challenge quilt.
Come see all the amazing interpretations of our challenge.
The winners of the Guild Grants will also be announced.
